Rocco 1 Year Update

By June 19, 2013 No Comments

What a difference a year makes huh? A year ago today I highsided coming out of turn 2 at Willow Springs Raceway and was run over by the rider following me. I had a broken pinky, nose, scapula, sternum, ribs and back at T6, 2 collapsed lungs and a complete spinal cord injury. The doctors told me I would never feel anything and I would never walk again.

While in the rehab center in Arizona I began using Evo UltraFit‘s ARPWave electrical stimulation machine. Within a few weeks I began feeling my feet again. Its been a year of working out and doing therapy with them 6 days a week and now I have feeling everywhere. Its not 100% but its getting better everyday. We have also seen small movement in my legs. To be clear, the picture showing me standing is me holding myself up with my arms as part of my therapy.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has been there for me this past year. This has been the hardest thing I’ve had to go through but with everyone’s support it is much easier and it helps me to keep pushing. My parents have done so much for me and I can’t thank them enough for everything. My girlfriend Briyelle Nicole Nasby has been there for me since day one when her and some of my friends drove 7 hours just to see me in the hospital and since then she’s been there for me everyday so thank you. Thank you to everyone who has made donations to help my parents pay for medical bills and for adaptive equipment for myself. It has helped me be 100% independent again. Thank you so much to Jay Schroederand Charles Maka for giving me the best therapy and training system in the world. I don’t know where I would be without them. By working with them I know I will achieve my goal to be walking by the end of the year and racing AMA in 2014. It feels good proving doctors wrong!
